The difference is that AudioFinder does a lot more, but within a window, rather than integrating as Soundabout does in the Finder. Of course, there’s already another Mac-only utility that does all of this and a lot more: Iced Audio’s excellent AudioFinder. We’ll keep an eye on this one will be great to see this idea develop into a finished product. It’s unclear whether the integration will extend to other apps, as well at this point all we know is what you can see in the video. It integrates with Pro Tools, automatically aligning to the cursor. It automatically converts files to MP3 for email. It integrates with Finder, so it’s always available when you navigate sound files. It provides waveform previewing, auditioning, and selection tools.Soundabout has a lot of tricks up its sleeve: (Thanks to our readers who picked up on this in Barry Wood’s NAMM Oddities.) I really want to use AudioFinder but I find that the overall usability to be awkward and frankly kind of old-school.AudioEase previewed a new utility at NAMM that integrates with your Mac to provide ever-present sound file previewing, editing, and sample utilities. I think that the biggest area of weirdness is with the library. Iced audio audiofinder 5 manual#Įven after reading the manual and attempting a dozen different times to get everything set up I still find myself struggling to get a natural workflow out of it. The Main Library should be everything, dozens of sub-libraries: I mean, scan vs import, these differ how exactly? And why do I have to keep rebuilding my main library? I think you should take some cue's from how iTunes is structured, it's simple and it works. When you click on the Main Library, it should search everything you have, all sub-libraries, if you pick a sub-library it should narrow the search to just the sub-library. I should be able to just drag and drop a new folder from finder on the Main Library and have it import all of the meta data into a new sub-library or directly into the main-library. Just one big library with all of my stuff indexed, that's what we want in the end right? To be able to jump into the app, go to the search box and type in "Bass line" and get an instant result, then flip through the results and get a playback. I do really like the audio file viewer/player. I just wish this was iTunes' database simplicity + your Viewer I think it's the best out there right now with Snapper by Audioease being the next in line. I use audioFinder every day, it's helped me out tremendously with my workflow. This is particularly annoying if you're working on a server and it creates clips on that server.Īs a game sound designer it's very useful to be able to quickly find sfx needed in my inventory, but I do have a few requests that I think will help out us sound designers a lot.ġ) Every time we make a selection in the "audio quick look" and want to drop it on the time line we have to press the "spot" button, any shortcut?Ģ) After making the selection and putting it on the timeline, I notice that audioFinder creates a "clip". What we'd like is to put those clips somewhere else locally, caché these and then dump them when audioFinder is closed. ProTools already imports the file, I understand some people might find it useful, give us the option at least?ģ) Automatic scan new items - not sure if there is an easy way to do this, but we go out and record new content all the time, bring them back in, edit them put them on the network and we have to rescan our entire library, which takes hours to do there needs to be an easier way to do this.Ĥ) (This ties in with the previous point) when we delete an item off the server the metadata search still finds these and thinks they are offline or something, we've tried rescanning the library but they still appear - and can't delete these manually either - threw audioFinder. These features would help us out tremendously, anyone else feels the same way? Iced audio audiofinder 5 Offline# This is my biggest feature request (with rewire close behind I think :-) ) because it is the only bottleneck in my workflow. I find it hard to believe that no one has built a decent midi preview app.
